Woven by Faith some songs are written to be heard.
Others are written because something in your heart needs a voice.
"One Stitch One Prayer" became that kind of song for me.
At it's heart, this song is about what happens when life leaves us feeling like scattered pieces - pieces shaped by joy, pain, loss, faith questions, memories, and moments we never expected to survive.
For along time, I thought healing meant somehow becoming untouched by what had happened to me. I thought the broken pieces needed to disappear before something beautiful could take their place.
But faith has taught me something different.
God does not need to throw away the pieces of our story in order to create something beautiful.
He can work with every one of them.
The Meaning Behind the Stitch
A stitch may look small. One tiny thread passing through one small piece of fabric may not seem powerful at all. But stitch after stitch, separate pieces begin to connect. A pattern begins to appear. Something that once looked scattered begins to belong together.
That is what "One stitch One Prayer" means to me.
Sometimes it happens one prayer at a time.
One conversation at a time.
One conversation with God.
One act of courage.
One decision to get up again.
One moment when we say, "God, I don't understand what You're doing, but I'm still here.'
And then another stitch is made.
One Heart, One Prayer
One of the lines at the center of the song says:
"One stitch, one heart, one prayer, One Savior meeting us there."
Those words carry the heart of the song. Because prayer doesn't require perfect words. God meets us in the places where we are still figuring things out.
He meets us in the silence.
He meets us when we are strong, and He meets us when we have nothing left to give. He meets us in the beautiful pieces of our lives and in the pieces we would rather hide.
And somehow, through grace. He begins stitching.
Why the Song Sounds Different
I wanted "One Stitch One Prayer" to carry faith without feeling heavy.
The music has a warm island sound - acoustic guitar and ukulele, tropical percussion, soft piano, warm bass, gentle harmonies, and the feeling of light moving across the water.
That sound matters to me. Faith isn't only found in our hardest moments.
There is joy in healing too.
There is freedom.
There is movement.
There is a movement when surviving begins urning into living again.
I wanted the music to carry that feeling. Not that everything has suddenly become perfect, but that hope is alive.
The Patchwork Is The Story
A patchwork is beautiful because the pieces are different. They weren't all cut from the same fabric. They don't all have the same color, texture, history, or shape. And neither do we. Every person carries a story that someone else may never fully see. Some pieces are bright. Some are worn. Some remind us of people we love. Some carry memories that still hurt. But none of those pieces make us unworthy of belonging.
That truth became part of the heart behind Patchwork Angels as well.
We don't have to arrive completely healed. We don't have to pretend the painful pieces never existed. We can come as we are. Because perhaps belonging isn't the reward we receive after everything is fixed. Perhaps belonging can become part of the healing.
Your Story Is Still Being Written
If you are in a season where you cannot see the finished picture, I hope this song reminds you of something:
You are looking at the stitching while God can see the whole quilt.
The piece you are holding today may not make sense yet.
Keep praying. Keep showing up. Let God work with the pieces. Your story does not have to look like anyone else's story to have purpose. And the places where life came apart may one day become the very place where grace is most visible
